Co-Founder & Managing Partner | Director, Global Affairs
Sample portraitDouglas Mang'anda believes that the people closest to a problem often understand it best. Sometimes what is missing is not another idea, but the right connection to knowledge, resources, people, and opportunity.
That belief has shaped his journey in public health and international development, from working with communities and district health systems in Malawi to contributing to national programs, international development initiatives, research, and public health work in the United States.
Over the years, Douglas has worked within and alongside institutions including the Malawi Ministry of Health, Liverpool Wellcome Trust, GIZ, WaterAid, WHO, USAID-funded programs, the Illinois Department of Public Health, Boots To Health Foundation, Wesley Foundation and McDonough District Hospital. His work covers infectious disease prevention and control, global health security, emergency preparedness, WASH, immunization, health systems strengthening, quality management, research, and community health.
These experiences have taught him something important: a good solution is not simply one that looks good on paper — it must make sense to the people expected to use it. His approach is therefore simple: listen first, understand the context, respect what already exists, and build from there.
At Beyond Borders D-E Consulting Group, Douglas helps guide the firm's direction and leads its Global Affairs work, building partnerships, connecting institutions and people, engaging development partners, and creating opportunities for ideas to move across borders.
His Philosophy
For Douglas, consulting is not about arriving with all the answers. It is about asking better questions, bringing the right people together, and leaving something meaningful behind — a stronger organization, a better system, new knowledge, or a solution that continues working long after the assignment ends.
His philosophy is simple: good ideas should not be limited by geography, local experience should be respected, and knowledge becomes more powerful when it is shared. That is what Beyond Borders means to him: connecting people, ideas, and opportunities so that good solutions can travel further.
